Karate and The Olympics

The martial arts of karate has not been on the Olympic System, however the World Martial arts Federation is recognized by the Global Olympic Board.  Launched in 1990, they have 191 affiliated schools as of 2010.

Ninja Gear For Training

I have heard that climbing rope is suppose to be good for upper body strength. So I decided to try this type of training. At first I was not sure what to do, what to buy or how to start training.

Eventually I created my own training routine. It goes like this:

I have found this has really helped my upper-body strength. At first I could only go up half way. But after a few weeks I was able to get all the way to the top. Now I do it 4 times every day (except weekends).

I also use ninja climbing claws to help with climbing wood walls in my yard.

I am sure ninja's probably did this kind of training!

The V Neck TKD Uniform - Different Than the Karate Gi?

Here is a typical question I get from many new students parents. Is the karate gi different than the Taekwondo gi?

My answer is a definite yes! Not that one is better than the other but the karate uniform has a crossover top while the taekwondo uniform has a pull over v neck top.

Many parents who have had their other kids in a different program want to know if their kid can wear their brothers or sisters top. If it is from the same style they can but if they are from a different style it is best that the kids wear the same style as everyone else as the techqnues may require that they wear the correct top.

And to top it off the kids will not want to wear something different than everyone else. They will want to fit in. So do not make them wear a different uniform.

For an example of a tkd uniform:
